This is probably** a Microsoft problem.  Read about what happens when the subscription to Office 365 expires.

Check your subscriptions by logging into your Microsoft account and click on  "View all subscriptions"

If the document is simply locked then a password is required to allow editing.

To unlock a Word document for editing:
  1. Open the document.
  2. Click the Review menu.
  3. If you cannot see the Restrict Editing icon in the ribbon, click Protect.
  4. Select Restrict Editing.
  5. Click Stop Protection.
  6. Enter the password in the pop-up window and click OK.
  7. The document can now be edited.

** it is possible that your system came with Word.  Please provide your product ID including the letters after the # character to allow looking up what you got when it was bought.
