I got the hp pavilion from my sister that still runs windows 10 I factory reset It and wiped everything on it but now I'm stuck on the lock screen that says the specified domain either does not exist or could not be connected and also I can't connect to WiFi either when I click the icon in the login screen all I have is the airplane mode icon and that's it I don't know what to do?

Hi @Mike1730wert,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

It sounds like the system may still be trying to connect to a domain account (like a work or school login) instead of a local one. Since you mentioned you factory reset the laptop, I’d like to clarify a few things first:

  • When you reset, did you choose “Remove everything” and reinstall Windows, or did you keep files/settings?
  • Do you see any option to sign in with a local account or a Microsoft account, or is it only showing the domain login?
  • Have you tried plugging in an Ethernet cable to see if the network options expand?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try right away:

  1. Check network drivers: If Wi‑Fi isn’t showing, the reset may have removed or disabled the wireless drivers. If you can log in with a local account, we can reinstall drivers from HP’s support website https://support.hp.com/ .
  2. Use Safe Mode with Networking: Restart the laptop, press F11 or Shift + Restart, and try booting into Safe Mode with Networking. This sometimes enables Wi‑Fi so you can update drivers.
  3. Ethernet connection: If possible, connect directly with a cable. This often unlocks the option to add a Microsoft account during setup.

I hope this helps.
