I can't reset the computer to a date other than today.

               Thought I was refreshing printer and wiped out everything on my desktop

Sounds like you are trying to use System Restore -- and you need to know that is NOT a time machine, as it will NOT return your "PC" to a previous date.

 

When Windows Updates are performed, all the Windows system components that are being replaced, updated, or deleted are copied off to something referred to as a Restore Point.  When you then do a System Restore and choose a Point, all that happens is that the current Window system components are replaced with the ones that were stored away.

 

Since your settings and user data are NOT stored, they are also NOT restored.

 

So,  System Restore is more correctly termed Windows Operating System restore, not Windows PC restore.

 

Does your PC still boot to a desktop?
