I recently got the blue screen which shows machine_check_exception. Computer had 2 slow beeps then 2 fast beeps. It shut down and now all I get is 2 slow flashes in hard drive and then 2 quick flashes. How do I fix without loosing all my data/files

@SheilaT10, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Machine Check Exception (Blue Screen) with Beeps and Flashes!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
The error code "Machine Check Exception" typically indicates a hardware issue that the system encountered. The combination of beeps and flashes from the hard drive LED further supports that there is a hardware failure.
Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue without losing your data:
Check Hardware Components:
- Cooling and Fans:
- Ensure that the processor cooling fan is running and the air vents are not blocked.
- Open the access panel and verify that the CPU fan is spinning when the power button is pressed.
- Memory (RAM):
- Reseat the memory modules.
- Replace the memory modules one at a time to isolate any faulty module.
- Hard Drive:
- Run the hard drive self-test in the Computer Setup utility.
- Check for any loose cable connections to the hard drive.
Troubleshoot Specific Beep and Flash Codes:
- The specific code "2 slow flashes followed by 2 quick flashes" in the hard drive LED needs attention. This pattern usually relates to:
- Processor thermal issue: Ensure the processor heat sink is properly attached to the processor.
- Power Supply: Check if the power supply connections are secure.
Run Diagnostics:
- HP Diagnostics:
- If accessible, use the HP diagnostics tool to identify hardware problems.
- Restart the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup menu appears. Select System Diagnostics (F2) and perform the tests.
Enter Safe Mode for System Recovery:
- If the system can still start up:
- Keep pressing F8 during startup to get into Advanced Startup.
- Select Safe Mode and attempt system recovery options.
Data Backup:
- If the system starts in Safe Mode, back up your data immediately to an external drive.
System Restore:
- Use System Restore to revert to a previous state if applicable and accessible.
- Go to Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection > System Restore.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
