Monitor was dead, I found cold solder joint(s) at power switch. Monitor now allows boot up and comes on but when logging on it goes black. PC is set to never go off for power saving. it will stay on until I try to log on. I am wondering if updating the drivers will solve this problem. (Monitor was a gift in dead condition, didn't want it to be junked, I want to fix it to gift it to a relative.)

Now I am wondering how I can update the drivers when the monitor won't stay on. The monitor you want to update drivers on needs to be connected doesn't it?,  or can I load the drivers somewhere (using another monitor that works of course) and let autoplay somehow find the drivers, if that is possible?

I got the PC into the self diagonizing mode and tried to RESET it with the F2105 monitor connected and the monitor was on right up to the point of pushing the RESET button and then it went black. This is an interesting challenge to fix for sure.

@Earlyboomer,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • What is the exact model for your monitor?
  • Have you tried booting to BIOS and check the display on the monitor?

Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!

Take care.

Cheers!
