Hi @ProfessorDebner,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check for Caps Lock/Num Lock:

  • Ensure that the Caps Lock or Num Lock keys are not turned on unless required by your password.

Use the Correct Keyboard Layout:

  • Verify that you are using the correct keyboard layout. For some languages, the keyboard layout changes, which may affect typing the password.

Confirm Password:

  • Make sure you are entering the exact password that was set during the initial setup.
  • If you have recently set up this PC and cannot recall the password, double-check for simple mistakes.

Try Resetting the Password:

  • Microsoft Account:
    • If you are using a Microsoft account to log in, you can reset your password online via the Microsoft account recovery page.
  • Local Account:
    • If you created a local account and cannot remember the password, you may need to use a password reset disk if you created one or use security questions if you set them up.

Use Safe Mode:

  • Restart the computer and repeatedly press the F8 key (or the Shift key while clicking Restart) to access the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Select Safe Mode.
  • Try logging in using the built-in Administrator account (if available) and change the password for your user account.

Perform a System Reset:

  • If you are still unable to log in, you might need to perform a system reset to restore the computer to its factory settings.
  • Note that this will erase all data on the PC, so consider this option only if you have no other way to access the account.
  • To perform a reset:
    1. Turn off the computer.
    2. Turn it back on and immediately press the Escape key repeatedly until the Startup menu appears.
    3. Press F11 for System Recovery.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PC.

I hope this helps.
