Hi @Sma9502,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0x0000185 typically indicates an issue with your laptop's boot configuration data (BCD), or a problem with the storage device or its connection. Here are some steps you can follow to try to resolve this issue:

1. Restart Your Computer

Sometimes, simply restarting your computer can resolve temporary issues.

2. Check for Loose Connections

If you are comfortable opening your laptop, check the connections of the internal storage device. Ensure that the hard drive or SSD is properly connected.

3. Boot into Recovery Mode

You can use the Windows Recovery Environment to attempt a repair.

Using a Windows Installation Media:

Create a Windows Installation Media:

  • On another working computer, go to the Microsoft website and download the Windows Media Creation Tool.
  • Use the tool to create a bootable USB drive or DVD.

Boot from the Installation Media:

  • Insert the bootable USB drive or DVD into your laptop.
  • Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key to enter the boot menu (usually F12, F2, ESC, or DEL, depending on your laptop model).
  • Select the USB drive or DVD to boot from.

Enter Repair Mode:

  • When the Windows Setup screen appears, select your language and click Next.
  • Click Repair your computer at the bottom left.

Access Troubleshoot Options:

  • Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options.

Automatic Repair:

  1. Select Startup Repair:
    • In the Advanced options menu, select Startup Repair.
    • Follow the prompts to let Windows attempt to repair the startup issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
