HP Z2 Tower G4 Base Model Workstation
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a Z2 desktop which works if you select an option, such as work, ox excel otherwise the screen goes dark and using the keyboard or mouse does not revive it

. I have to switch the mains off and on again.

Have anyone experience the on the model,

Greetings @Keith_16

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Wow, that's unusual.

This does not look like a sleep settings issue.

The following observations are assuming: the MB firmware, chipset drivers, Windows, and all other component drivers are up to date.

Have you run HP Diagnostics?

Have you tried backing up data, redoing Windows, or reimaging the system drive?

Does your PC do this when you are not signed into Windows?  If yes, that would point to a hardware problem; maybe a wonky PSU?? Maybe the PSU is shutting down because the PSU is detecting a system power continuity problem.

Say, for example, you're gazing at the HP Startup Menu or looking at a setting in the BIOS and, ... BAM! The PC shuts down..

This symptom, when the shutdown occurs using Windows, usually gives a "Windows was not shut down correctly" error at system restart or, eventually, the boot loader gets corrupted.

Have you tried checking Windows Event viewer or Windows reliability history for any clues?

I can't determine what is happening without more info.

The confounding aspect in your problem description is Windows will run if you do stuff but the system shuts down if Windows is idle. That is weird.

Very strange behavior. I've never had this experience.

Regards
