Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello! I've come into an issue with my laptop. Once i booted it, i got an error message saying, "HARD DISK ERROR". I ran a quick bios test on it, and a message appeared saying pretty much the same thing.  When i try to run the "disk management" my disk 0 - unknown is unallocated and not initialized, my disk 0 is missing and i really need to bring back my data from it.  I want to include that i haven't done any physical damage to the laptop, it just suddenly appeared once i started it. please help ;((

@cyberqq, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Hard Disk Error on HP Laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It appears that you are encountering a hard disk error on your HP laptop. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially recover your data:

Troubleshooting Steps

Connect the Hard Drive to Another Computer:

  • If possible, remove the hard drive from your laptop and connect it to another computer using an external hard drive enclosure or docking station.
  • This can help determine if the issue is with the hard drive itself or the laptop's hardware.

Use HP Diagnostics:

  • HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics tools that can be accessed from the BIOS.
  • Restart your laptop and press F2 or Esc to access the BIOS.
  • Navigate to the "Diagnostics" section and run the "Hard Drive Test".
  • This test will provide more detailed information about the state of your drive.

Boot in Safe Mode:

  • Try to boot your laptop into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during startup.
  • Once in Safe Mode, attempt to access Disk Management again to see if the drive is recognized.

Use Data Recovery Software:

  • If your hard drive is detected but inaccessible, consider using data recovery software like HP’s Data Recovery services or other third-party tools.
  • Software such as Recuva, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, or Disk Drill can help in recovering lost data.
