What do you mean by checking the capacity of the ethernet adapter?

Do you want to know how fast a speed it is connecting at?

If so, you can go to the Windows control panel>network and internet>network and sharing center>

Under the 'View your active networks' section click on the ethernet connection and it will let you know what speed the ethernet adapter is connecting at.

Thank you.  By doing what you said, I see it connecting at 72.2 Mbps.  I am paying for 1 Gig streaming on Verizon.  I would think it my connection should be should be faster, so I wanted to know the max speed that my NIC could hold.

Verizon came here and said my NIC card could not handle the speed I am paying for, so again...I wanted to know what speed the NIC card could support.  Verizon did some sort of test and said I needed to connect wirelessly (which I am now) because my Ethernet port in the tower was not working.  I was able to connect to the internet hard wired though, so I don't get that.

Short story, not sure if I need a new computer or someone here to translate a Verizon tech trying to snowball me and get out quickly.  He did sell me an extender.

You're very welcome.

So, you are using the Wi-Fi adapter to connect to the internet, and not the wired ethernet adapter, correct?

The parts list for your PC indicates that it comes with a RTL8821CE Wi-Fi adapter.

If it is only connecting at a speed of 72 MBPS, that is the maximum speed it will connect at on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band.

I recommend that you disconnect from that band and reconnect to the available 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi connection where the adapter has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

Below are the links to the latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers HP has for the RTL8821CE Wi-Fi adapter:
