I have an old Pavilion p7-1000 with bad motherboard. I want to upgrade the computer to a later Motherboard + CPU + Memory, etc. What MB can I use in that case?

Thank you Bill_To. Excellent advice. I have done that also, building my own FAST home-brew computer. I was hoping to save a few bucks by using the Dell case and how I realize that the cables from the front of the case won't necessarily connect to any new 3rd Party motherboard.

Greetings @RadioMan42
The p7-1000 is circa 2010. I had a HP 560z circa 2010.
I'm pretty sure the MB in my HP 560z was a standard uATX MB and a standard ATX power supply would work with the HP 560z case.
You would have to verify the HP MB mounting points and HP case standoffs match retail uATX MB standoff positions. You would have to verify the HP power supply installed in the p7 is standard ATX.
HP likes to do proprietary stuff on some systems. Like the HP case front panel USB pinouts could be modified. So a retail MB would have a problem providing front panel USB.
You would have a rear I/O problem installing the new MB if the HP rear I/O backplate is integrated into the case. I don't remember what HP did with the rear I/O cover on my 560z.
I guess what I am suggesting is you would have a much easier time using a current retail PC case if you are doing a new: MB, CPU, and memory.
You'll get faster front USB 3.x (type "A" and type 'C"), better cable management, and everything should work together.
Many folks like to do mods using older HP PC cases. I think older cases defeat the purpose of using new components. You lose current front panel I/O options.
I build new PCs using compatible components.
Maybe a different Forum member can assist.
