Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have the Windows 7 Pro OA version. I would like to run 64 bit instead of the 32 bit. My computer can handle the 64 bit. How do I go about doing this with no discs? Recovery partition is only 32bit.

Who are your friends?  The Christmas Grinch, or Mister Scrooge:OpenSmile:

Give them a blank DVD-recordable, and ask them to make a copy.

The copied disk is useless without a product-key -- their product-key is *NOT* stored on their disk, nor on your copy.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

The basic answer is -- you don't!

You can not "convert" from 32-bit to 64-bit or vice-versa; instead, you have to do a completely new Windows install -- and for that, you need install media, be it an ISO file, a DVD, or a USB stick.

Plus, HP does not offer any OS downloads but instead, has something know as HP Recovery Media.

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.

You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836
---------------------------------------
However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.
---------------------------------------

If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

Before using the media, read through this: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110

So basically what you are saying is that I will need to purchase a new Windows 7 Pro set of discs or USB stick and clean install it? Also would I be able to use my current activation key or the new key provided?

Yes, the current key (from the decal on the side/back of your computer) will work with either the 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows 7.

All you need is the 64-bit installation-media.

Got any friends with the "retail" version of 64-bit Windows 7, that you can borrow ?

If you have 4GB or less of RAM, stick with the 32-bit version -- Windows will use up to 3.2 GBytes of it.

If you have 4GB or more of RAM, install the 64-bit version.

No friends that want to let lose of it :Surprise:

However I ordered a usb stick with Windows 7 Pro.

I am currently running 12 GB of RAM and hope to max it at 16 GB soon also I run a GFX 1050 graphics card.

Thanks for the assistance.

The aren't tech savvy and like I am going to ruin it. :Surprise:

You just can't teach some people.

I am ok with it though I am a patient person. I just want to stopa running out of memory when playing World of Warcraft.

They suggested more ram and better graphics card so I did that and still didnt provide the results I was seeking  so I checked the version and waalaa!
