Hello
If I update to W11 will I lose all my data and the various installed programs - for example - Steam, Origin, Magix?
Also - is it better to wait for a while longer?
My PC is 18 months old.
Keith

hi
We cannot answer you with certainty
whoever does would not be good advice!
In theory, if you are performing an update, and not a full install, with windows update then, no!
I did, and nothing has disappeared except what microsoft decided to replace / remove
Personal data must not be deleted
programs, unless incompatibility may be, should not be removed
But, anticipate, that it can go badly, and make a complete image of your installation with a specialized software
The best is indeed to wait a bit, to see what is happening with the other users.
I installed windows 11 to be able to answer the new questions, I would not say that I regret it, but I do not see anything better, extra compared to windows 10 ..
I will not go back, but I advise to stay with windows 10 for the moment @Silverwood
To say that the computer works better, yes, some people may think so and say so, I would say neither more nor less!

There are several ways to do an upgrade. I "clean install" will delete all your files and programs. If your Envy is fully compatible you can run the setup from Windows 10 without registry-patch. Then it is like an ordinary update. Mount the ISO and copy the files to a separate partition and start the setup.exe. Disconnect your internet access. Depending on your Hardware it takes appr. 30 minutes and you are ready. All settings and programs are transfered to WIN 11.
I made these tests on 2 different machines and all my benchmarks clearly prove that WIN 10 is faster. ( 5%)
If you have a stable and reliable WIN 10 installation leave it as it is.
