Pavillion All-in-One-27-a010 (Touch) (Product #: V8P05AA#BA)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot upgrade from my current version of Windows 10 Home Edition (v 1803) to v1903 because of repeated errors I receive in the upgrade process (from Microsoft) indicating that I do not have the correct version of Intel Rapid Store Technology (RST).

I have tried multiple times to use HP Support Assistant to search for an upgrade and all it comes back with (and installs) is version 16.8.0.1000 of Intel RST.  I even tried fully uninstalling and re-installing RST from the Intel website (a newer version dated this month starting with 17), but my computer (and/or HP Support Assistant) keeps reverting it back to v. 16.8.0.1000.

My guess is the version that HP Support Assistant is supplying (16.8.0.1000) is no longer up to Microsoft's Win 10 64-bit standard and is blocking me from upgrading as a result.  I would like to figure out how I can force an upgrade (via HP?) to a newer HP AND Microsoft-approved version of Intel RST so I can update Windows 10 (v1903 or later).  I would like to do so quickly because it appears (a) I am at least 2 cycles behind on upgrading Win10, and (b) the messaging from Microsoft indicates that the Win10 version I have (v1803) is about to fall out of support.

Please advise if there is an answer or if I should just call HP (paid) support directly.

Thanks much for your help!!

@LesLB Welcome to HP Forums Community!

Here's what I suggest you do:

  • Uninstalled the Intel RST.
  • Then go to the Windows\System32\Drivers folder and look for - "iastora.sys"
  • And rename it to iastora.sys.org.
  • Reboot the system\
  • Then, re-run the 1903 update and it should work.

Once done, install or run the HP Support Assistant utility to make sure you get all the latest drivers and Softwares installed.

Let me know how that pans out,

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

This seems to be a new problem when updating to W10 version 1903.

One fix that seems to have worked for some folks is to navigate to:

"C:\Windows\System32\drivers", then find the iaStorA.sys driver and rename it to iaStorA_old.sys.

Try the update again.

You can also try a clean boot (Link) if the above solution does not work.

Regards
