Hi @ujjwal2211
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thank you for reaching out. I understand you're encountering the Windows Update error 0x80070005 on your HP laptop, and I'll be glad to help.
To assist you more accurately, could you kindly confirm the following details?
- What is the exact Windows version and build installed on the device? (Press Windows + R, type winver, and share a screenshot if possible.)
- Does the error appear for a specific update, or for all Windows updates?

In the screenshot, I can see Windows Update reporting "Install error - 0x80070005". This error is commonly related to Windows Update permissions, corrupted update components, or system file issues.
Kindly try the following steps:

Step 2: Verify Available Storage Space
Windows updates may fail if the system drive is low on storage.
- Open This PC.

- Kindly ensure at least 20 GB of free space is available.
Step 3: Reset Windows Update Components
If the issue persists, resetting Windows Update components can help resolve update-related corruption.
I hope this helps.

Hi @ujjwal2211,
Thank you for the update and for confirming that you have already completed the Windows Update Troubleshooter, verified available storage (45.4 GB free), and reset the Windows Update components, but the issue persists.
Based on the information provided, this is no longer a simple Windows Update cache issue. The error 0x80070005 typically indicates an Access Denied/Permissions problem within Windows. Since the error occurs with all updates, the next step is to repair the Windows image and system files directly.
Kindly follow these steps: (Kindly make sure all the data is backed up from the system before proceeding further)
Step 1: Run DISM Repair
- Right-click Start and select Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run the following command:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Allow the scan to complete fully (it may take some time).
- Restart the PC.
Step 2: Run System File Checker
After restarting, open Command Prompt (Admin) again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait for the verification to reach 100%, then restart the PC once more.
Step 3: Attempt the Updates Again
Go to:
Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates
and verify whether the updates install successfully.
I hope this helps.
