Hi everyone, I had windows 10 on my laptop which is HP Pavilion, the laptop gone blue screen, I managed to recover data on hard drive, but need to reinstall windows. It previously had windows 10 but want to install windows 11. Don't know where to start.
In my first chat with HP support they said you need to use HP Cloud Recovery Tool, next day another HP Support team said that was wrong, and you need to use HP Media Creation Tool.
I have tried to go to Media Creation but the procedure is not clear for a dummy user and HP support team are not really helping.
Appreciate if someone can help me install Windows 11. I have another HP laptop which I can download on USB drive and transfer.

If you can boot into windows 10 then just click on windows update, select the win11 upgrade and follow instructions.
if you cannot boot into windows then I recommend your first do a factory restore (if possible) and then do the upgrade.
HP is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires
You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.
Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.

Alternately, download from the MS windows store
If there is no factory restore available then ---
Use the media creation tool on another PC to create the win11 install
Go here to download the windows 11 ISO for a fresh install or clean upgrade to the latest and greatest.
select the "create windows 11 installation media" If you are licensed for home then do not download the pro

1. On your working HP laptop, go to Microsoft's official site.
2. Download **Windows 11 Media Creation Tool**.
3. Use it to create a **bootable USB** (at least 8GB).
4. Plug USB into the HP Pavilion x360.
5. Turn it on and press **F9** repeatedly to open boot menu.
6. Select USB drive and follow install steps.
7. Choose "Custom Install" → format old Windows partition → install Windows 11.
**Tip:** Make sure your device meets Windows 11 requirements (TPM 2.0, Secure Boot).

I understand the confusion—HP’s guidance can sometimes feel inconsistent, but the Windows 11 installation process using the HP Media Creation Tool is fairly straightforward once you know the steps. You’ll need to download the tool on your working HP laptop, run it to create a bootable USB drive, and then use that USB to install Windows 11 on your target device.
Just be sure to back up your data first and check that your system meets the Windows 11 requirements. For a smoother experience and official guidance.

I understand the confusion—HP support responses can sometimes differ, and it can be frustrating when instructions aren’t clear. The HP Media Creation Tool essentially helps you create a bootable USB drive to install Windows 11, but the steps can feel technical if you’re new to it. The safest approach is to carefully follow HP’s official guide, as it walks through downloading the tool, preparing the USB, and setting up Windows without missing critical steps.
