The Intel USB  3.0 Xtensible Host Controller Driver won't install. Went to: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/21129/USB-3-0-Driver-Intel-USB-3-0-eXtensible-Host-Control...

Downloaded zip file and extracted it. No executable file and no .inf file to point Windows 7-64bit to install the driver.

Uninstalled Universal Bus Controllers and attempted to point Windows to hp driver folders. Windows will not install and states the best driver is installed.

Hardware ID for Intel USB 3.0 Xtensible Host Controller:

Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1E26

Hardware IDS:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E26&SUBSYS_179C103C&REV_04
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E26&SUBSYS_179C103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E26&CC_0C00
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E26&CC_0C03

Have screenshots of Device Manager showing Triangle with exclamation on USB Enhanced Host Controller. Don't see a way to upload screenshots on this board.

Read most of the related posts on this topic. Didn't see solutions to this situation?

So let me understand this....Windows says the best driver is already installed...so that means you have a driver installed and you are only trying to update the driver and that doesnt work?

Its possible that the Intel driver you downloaded not be compatible with your motherboard..Have you tried downloading the driver from HP?

You have the USB driver there in the Chipset section...

Also make sure you have the latest BIOS version installed!

Hi, @Hi_5vz

It is not the USB 3 driver that is missing.

The hardware ID for the USB 3 controller is:  PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31

You are missing the Intel 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1E26 driver.

That is installed by the Intel chipset installation utlity.

Use the latest one from Intel at the link below.  The 2nd file down on the left is the auto install file.

March 29, 2019, Thanks Paul. will try the driver for the mboard chip set.  After providing my initial post, I thought about this problem related to the mboard chipset, because of the USB hardware needs to comm with Device Mgr. Driver that I was using from Intel wouldnt have affect, just as you stated.

Will try your solution and let you know if the usb ports become opertable again on notebook.

You're very welcome.

well either USB3 or chipset driver...you could still have found them all in the chipset link I gave you...its true the Intel chipset was not the very last version but still a good version to solve the issues...but seems like my try to help was not appreciated here...and only "other people" are beeing listened and thanked for their time...no worries!

Good luck

March 29, 2019, Installing mboard chipset driver using the link you posted didn't activate usb ports on probook 6470b. further investigation reveal the mboard is Mobile Intel QM77 chipset? no present download found for the driver on intel? https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/64333/mobile-intel-qm77-express-chipset.html

also considering flashing the bios? haven't done this in a long while and was on desktop comptr. hp has two bios upgrades for this notebook, depending on ROM. Version: F.66 Rev.A -> notebook model 68IBD family ROM

Version: F.73 Rev.A -> notebook models with a 68ICE and 68ICF family ROM

Would this help? But drivers on the hp download site would have to match bios right?

have to get ROM on probook 6470b info when bootup again.

DevMgr lists standard enhanced pci to usb host controllers listed twice, Code 39. No Root Hub Controller listed.

Grizzlysk2, tried the hp driver you posted before beginning comms on this site. hp driver didn't make usb ports operational. did list the usb controllers with ids in devmgr, but now usb controllers are listed as universal serial bus controllers -> generic name vs. intel series 7 C216.

open to your ideas, if you want to give?

Hi:

Download the chipset zip file version from the link above.

Unzip the file to its folder.

Go to the device manager, click on each problem usb controller device.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the unzipped chipset driver folder.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

Do the same thing to that PCI Bus device further on up the list.
