I've been getting messages on my new HP desktop computer to install Realtek Ethernet Driver.  I don't know what this is so could someone please explain.  Also, is it mandatory or optional?  Thanks so much.

You're very welcome.

You don't have to do anything but let the driver install.

You should leave the existing ethernet cable connected.

During the installation, the ethernet adapter may disconnect and reconnect momentarily, but that would be all that happens.

Hi:

It would be an optional update.

The Realtek Ethernet adapter is the wired adapter for your PC to connect to your modem or router with an ethernet cable.

If you get tired of seeing the notification, you may as well go ahead and install it.

Here is what the updated ethernet driver will do according to the support page.

- Provides support for Windows 10 v1903.

Thanks so much, Paul, for getting back to me.  Now I have a further question 😉  If I do go ahead and install the Realtek Ethernet Driver, will I have to affix any extra implements/cables to my computer?  I already have an Ethernet cable affixed.  Thanks again.

Looks like the post I just sent didn't go through so I wanted to thank you, Paul, for your excellent, easy-to-understand replies.  It's all a new "ball-game" for me so I sure do appreciate your expertise and t hatt you got back to me so promptly.  Have a great weekend!
