Case re-opened - I note that HP Support are receiving a lot of calls in connection with Omen, Pavilion and Envy desktops. They were too busy to take my call immediately but, to be fair, called back pretty much straight away. I am advised that the issue is connected with the latest cumulative update from Microsoft (KB4556799), that the issue is with Microsoft to resolve and that until there is a resolution my only option is to pause updates ...
There may be 'cleverer' ways of addressing the issue but for now I'll go with that.
It was suggested that I should use Windows Recovery to roll back the latest quality updates - not a chance ... it wouldn't!
I tried to make use of one of several System Images I had created along the way ... couldn't boot the System Repair CD so that was something of a waste of time!
So I've done another clean install from Windows 10 media, paused Windows Updates until 24th June, and will now set about the minimum of reconfiguration of my PC and install a minimum set of applications ... yawn ... in the hope that a real fix comes along reasonably soon ...
I'll continue to monitor this thread, of course.

I can't see it being (KB4556799) as that was released on May 12th and many of us encountered the BSOD way earlier than that. Even with my current restore from yesterday, using an image from the 15th, I already have the update installed and it's okay.
I still can't believe we haven't heard an official HP response anywhere.

I think HP SoftwareComponent - 4.1.4.3079 is the update causing it. If it's a later version then maybe they patched it.

To clarify ... KB4556799 released on patch Tuesday, May 12, 2020 will contain the issue. Updates up to patch Tuesday, April 14, 2020 will not contain the issue (well, should not contain the issue). The problematic update was released at some time after April 14 and before May 12.
I had KB4556799 applied (on 12th May) and my system was rock solid and stable for eight days ... sleep well! 🙂

Yeah, I had a good run too. Almost felt like it was two weeks before I got hit again yesterday. I've disabled the hidden windows driver updates, so we'll see how that goes.

I have 2 Omens (both with the same issues discussed here), one of them is working now after updating drivers and all Windows updates. The other one is still getting the BSOD every 5-10 minutes even when applying the same thing.
Definitely a head scratcher. I can't think what the difference would be.

I'm not sure. I had to do the registry edit to get the computer stable. Under update history "HP SoftwareComponent - 4.1.4.3079" is the only thing that was installed today (when the BSOD started happening). When you go to uninstall updates, it's not listed there.
