hi

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-update-keeps-updating-hp-obsolete-usb/...

see this, except error it is explained how to deactivate the search / update of drivers
Windows update, may persist in installing an obsolete / incompatible driver
just ignore it

Thank you Prométhée,

You'd think Microsoft would have an answer! Any way, I refuse to mess with the windows reg. I expect whoever invoked the problem to rectify it, probably with an update. I mean it's only been doing the rounds for 15 years odd from what I can make out from google searches. Any simple, safe and  easily removable update block, for when updates are required, would be appreciated. Meanwhile I will press Microsoft to sort it out.

I will not close this thread for now in case somebody else might have another offering

Regards. Whatsisname

sorry i don't understand your answer
You can disable the search for automatic updates, drivers
Windows update often offers incompatible or already installed drivers, so you're going in circles
We must be able to choose which ones we want to install or not, which I have been doing for a very long time now.

Excuse my earlier typo, I am using Win 10 home 21H2 I have had a look at the setting device installation setting as per your URL. I am not willing to change that because of the warning about the computer may not work as you expect. With the up to date W10 Home get to the setting  type "control panel" in the task bar.

search box and follow as URL

I take your point about choosing what to ignore in downloads, my beef is that having identified a choice their seems no way of stopping the daily offering.

Thanks for considering the problem

there is absolutely no risk in disabling the driver search, I would even say on the contrary

but it's up to you, I'm not going to force you to do that

since normally indeed, we must be able to select the updates

@Whatsisname

Hello,

Please use/run Hide or Show Updates to hide the annoying update. Restart the computer, then check for Windows updates again.

Then, please use the HP ENVY 5000 All-in-One series Full Feature Software and Drivers to install your printer.

Don't hesitate to contact us in case of need.

Best regards,

I had this problem after upgrading to windows 11..........went round and round with Hp and Microsoft........about it. Nothing changed..........still getting USB updates. Then realized I had an HP Envy Photo 7858 Printer that had wireless and USB connectivity capabilities. So I went to the Printer Software Tools ( Device Setup and Software)........and realized also that I was operating the printer wireless , but had a USB Connection also. I removed the USB cable , set up the printer for wireless (network) use and the problem has gone away. No more attempts to update and connect my printer via USB. So I think you should set up your printer for Wireless or USB connectivity not both. So this problem......I think ...... boils down to a Printer connectivity issue .......not a Computer or Reg. or Update or Software issue..........hope this idea works for you.
