Laptop freezes after starting, after sleeping, after sitting for a while. curser/pointer freezes and no way to get it working again. I have had this issue for several months now. I am not doing anything hard, I'm logging onto Chrome, reading email, looking at Facebook. There should not be an issue.
When this happens I have to do a hard shutdown.
Its also been running slow and it takes for every to get going. The Tank Manager shows 100% use of the hard drive for about an hour. The CPU and Memory are low.
I see System Interrupt as the top Disk hog.
I've turned off almost everything at start up that is not necessary and the Task Manager still shows 100% use.
Ive run the HP Support Assit tools and found no errors. I've run commands from the Window R on the hard drive and found no problems!
Why?

This nearly always means the primary drive is failing and will need to be replaced, and Windows reinstalled on the PC.
See the following HP Guide for more information:

No, you're not wrong. I have a Win11 desktop that freezes like this on a regular basis. And when it does that, I remove the primary data HDD from it and run CHKDSK on it -- and it always finds and fixes errors. When I put the drive back and restart the PC, it runs OK -- for a while. But then it starts doing this again. I run the drive check every week -- and have even replaced the drive and the motherboard. I use the same brand drives for data storage on other desktops and am not seeing this problem on the others.
I would not suspect that Win11 will fix anything -- as I have upgraded several PCs to Win11 and not seen any improvements of any kind as a result.
If you are going to do that, download the free version of Macrium Reflect and make an image backup of your PC to an external drive -- that way, if it goes badly, you can restore your current system in a few minutes.
You can get it from here:
