Hi @ajturner7914, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

I'm sorry to hear your laptop keeps crashing, let’s work together to get this resolved.

Crashes can be caused by hardware issues, outdated drivers, overheating, or software conflicts. Please follow these steps to diagnose and fix the issue:

Perform HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  3. Select System Tests > Quick Test (or Extensive Test for a deeper check).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated BIOS or drivers can cause instability.

  1. Visit the HP Support Website.
  2. Enter your laptop’s model number.
  3. Download and install the latest:
    • BIOS
    • Chipset drivers
    • Graphics drivers
    • Windows updates

Check for Overheating

Overheating can lead to random shutdowns or crashes.

  • Ensure vents are not blocked.
  • Use the laptop on a hard, flat surface.
  • Clean dust from vents using compressed air.

Run System File Checker

Corrupted system files can cause crashes.

  1. Press Windows + X, select Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Type: sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  3. Wait for the scan to complete and follow any repair prompts.

Perform a Clean Boot

This helps identify if a background app is causing the crash.

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  2. Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  3. Go to Startup > Open Task Manager, and disable all startup items.
  4. Restart your PC.

Optional: Reset Windows (if issue persists)

If none of the above steps help, consider resetting Windows:

  1. Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
  2. Under Reset this PC, choose Keep my files or Remove everything.

If the suggestions helped solve the problem, please let us know by clicking “Accepted Solution.” It really helps fellow users find quick answers.

A quick “Yes” also goes a long way in showing appreciation!

Take care and happy computing!

Best regards,

Max3Aj
