""I want to edit the "hosts" file and save the changes. ? how to - please ""
I have tried regular Linux commands which have not worked.

Have no idea what you mean by "regular Linux commands" -- as there are hundreds of Linux commands. Would help to tell us which ones you tried and what happened.
Are you using a GUI desktop, or since this is a server environment, are you using the terminal?
Typical terminal commands would be the following:
- Open a Terminal window.
- Enter the following command to open the hosts file in a text editor: sudo nano /etc/hosts.
- Enter your user password.
- Make the necessary changes to the file.
- Press Control-X.
- When you are asked if you want to save your changes, enter y.
You would have to determine which text editor your Linux flavor supports, if nano is not available.
That said, we can not provide Linux hand-holding on this forum. If you are going to do "server stuff" you will need to do LOTS of research yourself online to learn Linux commands.
