Hello.  I got Z2 Tower G9 Workstation pc at my work. it comes with 512gb m2 and 1tb hdd.   i need to install RHEL 7.9 OS but i am unable to.. installation goe as it hsold, but at then end, when it should configure boot, it gives error:

 

Failed to set new EFI boot target.

 

no matter how i try to install it, i can not add grub mbr(efi) for linux. is there any way to get it installed?  

 

i tryed to enable or disable all kinds of stuff from bios.  it does not help.

Hi,

It looks like you are trying to install the RHEL in a dual boot on the SSD that already has the EFI partition set. However, some distros need a bigger EFI partition. I have had a similar issue when I was unable to install MX Linux on a drive with the original Windows EFI partition/disk that I was going to replace with linux. I ended up with reformatting the whole drive.

I suggest two boot drives if possible to run a dual boot.

Hello. I found that problem lyes within new devices, since rhel7 kernel do not recognise some drivers and it causes that error.  Tryed installing os on different pc (removed ssd and put it into other pc)   and it worked. 

 

P.S. i had 1GB /boot/efi partition, so it should not have been problem.
