Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Helped a friend puchase several years ago. Naturally, he threw out recovery disks.  Now, Bootmgr is missing.  No onboard recovery options.  He did upgrade to Win10 during the free upgrade period, but I would just like to get it up and running with original OS and go from there.  Any guidance appreciated!

Hi,

This "How To" (Link) article may help to fix the Windows boot loader.

You can download Windows 10 (W10) installation media here (Link) if the PC was previously upgraded to Windows 10. You can get previous versions of W10 at this (Link) using the Heidoc: Windows and Office download Tool.

The PC should have a digital license from Microsoft so installing and activating a clean copy of W10 should be quicker than installing W7 and doing the W10 update.

You should be able to install W7 clean using this (Link) if you want W7. Heidoc and this last link require converting the downloaded  .ISO file to bootable media to do the operating system installation. You will have to install HP drivers for your PC using this (Link) if you do a clean W7 installation.

Lastly, you can get HP W7 Recovery media at this (Link).

Regards

Hi, @Trondog2000

The Heidoc link does not have any W7 ISO files available for download at this time.

You can download a W7 x64 Home Premium ISO file from the link below...

https://getintopc.com/softwares/operating-systems/windows-7-home-premium-free-download-iso-32-bit-64...

I have zipped up and attached the Microsoft utility that you will need to transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive, so that it is bootable.

Thank you both for your replies!  Between your links and rationale, I have created both a bootable W7 and W10 usb.  I'll try W10 first.  We'll see how it goes. 🙂
