Lost file and programs

Novice here. Accidently erased my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 8 without creating backup. Lost ALL my files and programs (music, photos, important documents, etc). Is it possible to find and restore these files? If there's a solution, it may be beyond my capabilities so I don't mind taking it to a qualified repair shop and paying.

With a bit of luck
don't install anything, don't defrag, don't update, block everything, don't do anything
just install a recovery software or two, save what is found to an external usb drive or thumb drive

No. I tried a free online recovery download, recovered around 1100 file (non of which were files I recognized) and it was going to take 3 days to complete, so I stopped it.

do not lose hope
This has happened to me before, but I used at least three software, some do not find the same thing, by using three different software I had practically recovered everything!
If you go to a professional it may be quite expensive, so take the time, try, and if no other choice, then ask different specialists for an estimate.
