HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear Forum, I had very successfully installed an MXM 3.0 to PCIe x16 adapter cable/dock on my HP 8300 ELite USDT to run an external graphics card (AMD RX 570 4GB) using a Xeon E3-1280 V2 CPU. After I changed the Xeon for an i7-3770K CPU, the screen remains blank.  No beeps, or other signs of PC distress.  Nothing wrong with the 3770K or the RX 570: once the eGPU is connected through the mini PCIe x1 slot, everything works A-OK.  The MXM 3.0 to PCIe x16 adapter/dock also appears to be working, because I soon as I install a low graphics external card (Nvidia GeForce GT 530 1GB), the video feed is back.  Also, the i7-3770K integrated video works -no problem.

So the question is, how can I troubleshoot this issue like uninstall/install the MXM driver -how to do this & where can I find this?

Problem fixed: installed (my third) HP Elite 8300 USDT motherboard ($18 via EBay) and MXM 3.0 is back.

Installed a new RX 6600 XT 8GB graphics card, and I'm pleased to report that as of today, October 1st, 2021, my HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT is the most powerful of its kind according to UserBenchmark.com.

@NonSequitur777 -- have you searched this forum for other postings that used the word "MXM" ?

Were any of those postings helpful?

Thank you for bringing this up: no, other MXM postings were not helpful in this case. You see, in hindsight, the likely reason for this incident was because in addition to changing out the CPU, I also changed out the stock PCIe x1 WiFi card for a fancy dual band (Bluetooth + high speed WiFi) card.  Turns out -my bad- that this card was not compatible with the 8300 USDT's motherboard. It is not the first time to be confronted with the rather finicky nature of these MB's.  Both the PCIe x1 and the MXM 3.0 slots are now no longer operative.  An(other) inexpensive replacement MB is on its way from EBay. An associate of mine is checking out the RX 570 to make sure it wasn't somehow affected either. Once I am confident that I can safely try out the new RX 6600 XT 8GB graphics card, this HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT upgrade project is done.

Btw, I am already working on my next project: an HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF: can use the same high capacity i7-3770K & Xeon E3-1280 V2 LGA 1155 CPUs, has an actual PCIe x16 slot, and has four RAM slots to allow a total of 32 GB, among other specs that makes this HP PC interesting to work on.
