Hi @AncientGeezer, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding McAfee popping up!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

McAfee popups often come from either McAfee software installed on your PC or browser notifications. Here’s how to get rid of them:

1. Uninstall McAfee Completely (If You Don’t Need It)

If you don’t use McAfee, the best solution is to uninstall it:

  1. Press Win + R, type appwiz.cpl, and hit Enter.
  2. Find McAfee LiveSafe or McAfee Security, select it, and click Uninstall.
  3. Download and run the McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) Tool from McAfee’s official site.

2. Disable McAfee Pop-ups (If You Want to Keep It)

If you use McAfee but want to stop popups, disable notifications:

  1. Open McAfee.
  2. Click Settings (⚙️) > General Settings & Alerts.
  3. Under Protection Alerts & Information Alerts, turn off notifications.

3. Block McAfee Browser Notifications

If popups still appear while browsing, McAfee might have enabled push notifications.

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Site Settings.
  3. Scroll to Notifications and look for McAfee-related sites.
  4. Block or Remove any unwanted sites.

4. Remove McAfee Scheduled Tasks (If It Keeps Coming Back)

Sometimes, McAfee schedules tasks to run popups even after uninstallation.

  1. Press Win + R, type taskschd.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Expand Task Scheduler Library.
  3. Look for McAfee-related tasks, right-click, and Disable/Delete.

5. Check for Leftover McAfee Files

Even after uninstallation, some McAfee files may remain.

  1. Press Win + R, type %ProgramFiles%, and check for any McAfee folders. Delete them.
  2. Do the same in %AppData% and %ProgramData%.

After following these steps, you should be completely free of McAfee popups! Let me know if you need more help. 😊
