Hi @MarHer1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) or ATAPI (ATA Packet Interface) controllers are missing from Device Manager on your HP Pavilion Desktop PC, it could indicate a driver issue or a problem with the device itself. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue.
Check for Hidden Devices:
- Sometimes, devices might appear hidden in Device Manager. To view hidden devices:
- Open Device Manager (you can press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager).
- Click on View in the menu and choose Show hidden devices.
- Look under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to see if any devices are listed there.
Scan for Hardware Changes:
- In Device Manager, click on Action in the menu bar.
- Select Scan for hardware changes. This might prompt Windows to detect and reinstall the missing IDE controllers.
Update IDE/ATAPI Controller Drivers:
- Right-click on the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section and choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software. Windows will search online for the latest drivers.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update process.
Check BIOS Settings:
- Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Del during startup).
- Ensure that IDE or SATA settings are correctly configured. If your system was previously set to AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface), ensure it's still correctly configured.
Reinstall IDE/ATAPI Controllers:
- If updating drivers doesn’t work, you can try uninstalling the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers from Device Manager:
- Right-click on the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and choose Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- If the above steps don’t work, there might be a hardware issue with the IDE controller or the motherboard itself.
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue of missing IDE/ATAPI controllers from Device Manager on your HP Pavilion Desktop PC.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
