I just finished a move and set up my desk, when I plugged my monitors in both posted their bios screen and went to sleep. When I plugged in and turned on my computer both monitors came on and looked normal but when I signed in to windows my screen stayed black with a lit backlight. Both monitors are being detected because my desktop moves if I unplug the display port but not I can’t see the built in menu on the monitor to try switching inputs. Is it broken? I swear it had just showed me the HP omen screen

Hi  @litch12,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how  it must feel to see a black screen on your monitor. Let’s work through this together and see if we can get your monitors back to normal.

Just to confirm the situation:

  • Both monitors show the BIOS screen when the PC starts.
  • Once you log into Windows, the monitors stay lit but display only a black screen.
  • If you unplug one monitor, your desktop shifts, which means Windows is detecting them.
  • You’re unable to access the monitor’s built-in menu.

Here are a few  steps you can try :

1.Check Input Source

Even if the on-screen menu isn’t visible, try pressing the monitor’s input/source button a few times to cycle through HDMI/DisplayPort. Sometimes after a move, the input defaults incorrectly.

2. Safe Mode Test

Restart your PC and boot into Safe Mode. If the monitors display correctly there, the issue may be with your graphics driver.

3. Cable & Port Check

Reseat the DisplayPort/HDMI cables firmly on both ends.

If possible, try a different cable or port to rule out a loose or damaged connection.

5. Single Monitor Test

Disconnect one monitor and boot with only one connected. This helps determine if the issue is related to dual-monitor setup.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
