I have Omen 45L Gaming Desktop GT-22-3xxx INTEL I7 32 GB RAM Serial Number 2MD4503KPK  Product number A4ND8AV - Monitor  OMEN by HP 27 inch QHD 240Hz Gaming Monitor - OMEN 27qs Product 780J4AA Serial Number CNC4350YDC. Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super

 

I have checked everywhere I can and have adjusted sleep and screen saver. The issue is the screen goes dark after approximately 30 seconds of idle in MS Word or other programs like Outlook If you hit the return key and it comes back on and you continue on. So, if you are reading something on the screen it will go dark after a few seconds. How and where do I adjust this.  Screen saver, monitor settings, video board setting Geforce RTX 4070 super.  I reloaded video driver. no change.

Update - changing the refresh rate did not change the problem. Still goes dark but after further investigating I found the screen saver problem was set for 1 minute. I just changed this and will see what happens. AS further test I have a large screen TV set up as a second monitor for zoom meetings or other presentations. Both went dark at the same time.   Will let you know if the screen saver program change makes a difference.

Interestingly, this happened to me yesterday too.

 

Drove me nuts, as you may appreciate.

 

Anyways, what fixed this issue for me, for now, is that I changed my monitor's refresh rate from 165 Hz to 60 Hz:

The monitor was at 59.95. I changed to 120 and will see what happens. Then move back if still an issue.

1. Check Power Settings in Windows 11:

 

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery.
  • Under the Screen and Sleep section, ensure that the settings for turning off the display or putting the PC to sleep are set to a desired time, or set to Never to prevent it from automatically turning off when idle.
  • Advanced Power Settings:
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change Plan Settings (next to your selected power plan).
    • Click on Change Advanced Power Settings.
    • Expand the Display section and ensure that the Turn off display after is set to a reasonable time or to Never.
    • Also, check under Sleep and make sure that Sleep after is set to a time you are comfortable with or Never.

 

2. Check Screensaver Settings:

 

  • Go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
  • Scroll down and click on Screen saver settings.
  • Make sure the Screen saver is set to None or to a longer time.

 

3. Check Video Driver & GPU Settings (Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super):

Another update. This seems a little odd. But the screen saver program somehow got set to 1 minute but then it takes about another whole minute before the screen saver program starts in my case have a series of photos. Changed the screen saver program to 15 minutes and now can read a screen without going dark. Thank you for the help.
