Hello from a newcomer.
My Elitedesk 800 G2 Tower workstation, bought in 2015, failed last week due a fault developing in its Spitfire motherboard. I've bought a replacement board with the same part number.
The original M/B has a spring clip to retain the Southbridge chip heatsink, but the replacement doesn't come with the heatsink or the clip.
The ends of the clip locate in little hinge-blocks. I'd appreciate advice as to how to transfer the blocks and clip from the old board to the new one.

The hinges blocks are needed and are soldered onto the motherboard. As shown here they are missing
It is likely that newer revisions of the motherboard had a better designed circuit that does not need the heat sink. If the chip manufacturer improves the silicon to where it uses less power then that can save the cost of the spring, heat sink and assembly.
Any aftermarket heat sink using heat conductive adhesive could interfere with added PCIe adapters especially a double wide graphics card in the that top X16 slot. If you are concerned about overheating I would attach a small fan in the vicinity of the chip help circulate air. If the adjacent blue SATA connector has a cable then use two cable ties to attach small fan 25x25x10 mm to the cable

Your help much appreciated, BeemerBiker. 😊
Those are top tips, but I'll leave the question open for now in case anyone wants to add anything. It would be useful to know if the later boards don't, for sure, need the heatsink held down.
