My pc has begun buffering any music or video every 2 seconds.  I tried diagnostics and there sems to be no fix.  It's unusable moveable junk right now.

 It's a year old!!

What is the fix?

Hi @DaveDaveDave953,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

That kind of constant buffering every 2 seconds is not normal, especially on a relatively new HP Envy PC. Sorry to hear about the trouble. Let’s go through a few targeted steps to help resolve this:

1. Check Internet Connection Stability

Even local media apps (like Spotify or YouTube) can buffer if the network is unstable.

  • Run a speed test at fast.com
  • Try switching to a wired Ethernet connection or a different Wi-Fi network
  • Restart your router

2. Disable Background Apps

Heavy background activity can cause lag and buffering.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
  • Go to Startup tab → Disable unnecessary apps
  • Check the Processes tab for high CPU or disk usage

3. Update Audio & Video Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause playback issues.

  • Open HP Support Assistant
  • Check for updates to:
    • Audio drivers
    • Graphics drivers
    • Chipset drivers

 4. Check for Malware or Resource Hogs

Even though you ran diagnostics, try a deep scan with Malwarebytes or Windows Defender Offline Scan.

5. Test with Local Media

Try playing a downloaded video or MP3 file:

  • If it still buffers, the issue is likely hardware or driver-related
  • If it plays fine, the issue is likely network or app-related

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
