My HP 24 Monitor will randomly and unexpectedly revert to zero for brightness and I have to manually go in and turn it up. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when this will happen. Very annoyting.

Hi @Flash413,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand that experiencing random changes in brightness on your HP 24 Monitor can be frustrating. This issue could be caused by various factors, and here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.
- Check for Software or Driver Updates: Ensure that you have the latest drivers and software for your monitor and graphics card. Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes lead to display issues. Visit HP's official website and your graphics card manufacturer's website to download the latest drivers and software updates.
- Operating System Settings: Sometimes, the operating system's power settings can affect the brightness of your monitor. Check your computer's power settings to make sure there are no settings that might automatically adjust the brightness. On Windows, you can do this by going to "Control Panel" > "Power Options" and checking the settings under your selected power plan.
- Monitor Settings: Ensure that there are no built-in settings on your monitor that could be causing the brightness to change. Some monitors have features like dynamic contrast or adaptive brightness that can automatically adjust the brightness based on ambient lighting conditions. Check your monitor's menu settings for any such options and disable them.
- Cables and Connections: Make sure that all cables (VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) connecting your computer to the monitor are securely connected. Loose or damaged cables can sometimes cause display issues.
- External Factors: Consider whether there are any external factors that could be affecting the monitor's brightness, such as changes in ambient lighting. Ensure that there are no light sources directly shining onto the monitor's light sensor (if it has one).
- Monitor Reset: If you've tried the above steps and the issue persists, you may want to perform a factory reset on your monitor. Refer to the monitor's user manual for instructions on how to do this.
- Monitor Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your monitor. Manufacturers sometimes release firmware updates to address issues and improve performance. Refer to HP's support website for any available updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
