When I turn on my computer, I am prompted to enter the BitLocker recovery key. After entering the key, I receive a message stating that the computer has encountered a problem. Additionally, when I attempt to connect to the internet to perform troubleshooting, the computer does not accept any type of internet connection.

@Chris1391,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

This usually happens when Windows detects a major system change or corruption and BitLocker protection is triggered.

Since:

  • you can enter the BitLocker recovery key,
  • but Windows still fails afterward,
  • and internet/network troubleshooting does not work,

the issue is likely Windows corruption rather than only a BitLocker problem.

Things to try:

1.) Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) :

  • power on the PC,
  • interrupt startup 3 times during the spinning dots/loading screen,
  • Windows should enter "Preparing Automatic Repair".

2.) Try:

  • Startup Repair
    first.

3.) If Startup Repair fails:
Go to:

  • Troubleshoot
  • Advanced Options
  • System Restore

Restore the PC to a date before the problem started if restore points exist.

4.) If that also fails:
Open:

  • Command Prompt as Administrator

Run (copy/paste/Enter) :

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\Windows

Then:

chkdsk C: /f /r

5.) If networking still does not work in recovery mode:

that is not uncommon. Many recovery environments lack the correct Wi-Fi drivers. If possible, try:

  • a wired Ethernet connection,
  • or skip online troubleshooting entirely.

6.) Last resort options:

  • "Reset this PC" (keep files) -at this point, a concern is that you could lose personal information.

If Windows starts, I recommend to copy important files to:

    - a USB flash drive,
    - external hard drive,
    - or cloud storage.

  • or a clean Windows reinstall using a USB installer created with Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
  • Use another computer: you can remove your SSD/HDD from the HP All-in-One and connect it to another PC using either a SATA-to-USB adapter or an external enclosure.

Before reinstalling Windows, make sure you still have your BitLocker recovery key saved safely, because encrypted drives may require it again during recovery.

Kind Regards,
