Hi,
My PC data and status are as follows:
OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop GT15-0078ns PC (6X1D2EA)
Edición Windows 11 Home
Versión 22H2
Instalado el 24/11/2022
Versión del sistema operativo 22621.4317
Experiencia Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1041.0
My problem is that my PC won't update to new versions of W11 (23H2, 24H2).
I've checked Windows Update and everything seems to be fine, as I'm successfully receiving cumulative security updates for version 22H2 as well as drivers for the devices I have installed.
On the HP support page, when I check the list of available drivers for my PC, when selecting the operating system it only allows me to choose between W11 21H2 and 22H2. It's as if my PC doesn't support newer versions of W11. Is that possible?
Is there anything I can do to update to W11 23H2 or 24H2, but without causing me problems?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
PMM

Greetings @P_M_M
Welcome to the HP Forum.
Your PC should have updated to W11 23H2 by now. Something is preventing this from happening.
Check System Files:
Open an Admin command prompt as follows:
Open Search then enter "command prompt". Right-click on the search result.
Select "Run as Administrator".
Enter the following commands, one at a time. Wait for each command to complete before running the next command.
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth note: the PC must be connected to the network when using the DISM command.
Enter the next command to verify system files are okay.
sfc /scannow
Restart the PC if system files are okay. Do another sfc /scannow check to verify all is good.
Then check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:
Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.
Select "F2". Run extensive system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem.
Check Windows Update after doing the above if everything is okay.
You can try an in-place W11 upgrade if your PC is okay. Back up data before doing this!
You should be able to get the W11 Home, 23H2, OEM version .ISO at Heidoc. Or try the W11 24H2 .ISO from Microsoft. I don't know if I would jump to the W11 24H2 version in your situation.
Download the W11 .ISO. Double-click the .ISO while in Windows to mount the image file.
Follow prompts to try an in-place upgrade.
Your PC should roll back to 22H2 if a problem occurs. But, nothing is certain in life.

Hello @Bill_To,
First of all, thank you for answering my question.
I have already checked the system files with the commands you have indicated and in all cases the result has been OK.
Then I checked the hardware of my PC using HP Diagnostics (it took a long time) and the result has been OK for all components.
Then, I checked the updates with Windows Update and it only found a definition update for Windows Defender (this is normal).
In Heidoc I have not found any ISO image for W11, not even the oldest ones.
In Microsoft, only version 22H4 is available for download, but for the moment I am not going to install it because on the Microsoft page there are several known problems that are not yet resolved... and more problems that users report and Microsoft has not yet recognized. Also, Microsoft does not recommend manually installing version 24H2 until the issues have been resolved:
"Important: We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue has been resolved."
Therefore, I will wait a while to see if I finally get version 24H2 automatically through Windows Update (I doubt it) and if not, later, when Microsoft has had time to fix the problems, I will update manually.
Finally, I totally agree with you: nothing is certain in life. And in Windows, even less so.
Thank you very much and best regards,
PMM

Greetings @P_M_M
My pleasure.
I did not check Heidoc to see what was available.
That's too bad W11 23H2 is not available at Heidoc.
You could try UUP Dump. I verified W11 23H2 is available at UUP Dump.
I have never used UUP Dump. I'm going to download the image and see how it goes.
The Windows 11 Forum seems to indicate the .ISO files are okay and come directly from Microsoft servers.
I would scan the image file to see what's going on if you decide to try UUP Dump.

Hi again @Bill_To,
Thank you very much for your great interest in resolving this issue.
I'm going to download the W11 v.23H2 ISO and save it. If after a while (one or two months) my PC does not automatically update to 24H2 or if the problems with this version persist, then I will install 23H2.
Thanks again and best regards,
PMM

Greetings @P_M_M
My pleasure.
I have concluded using UUP dump to get the W11 23H2 image is not advised. I give this process two thumbs down.
I believe: the initial file download, and subsequently created .ISO file and other folders, are free of malware (multiple virus scans, Process Explorer, and Virus Total).
And the W11 Forum also gave UUP dump the green light.
But I did not like the modifications to the existing operating system drive caused by creating the .ISO.
So I reimaged my system drive using a prior system image backup to get rid of the stuff I did not like.
You should wait for W11 24H2. Or download the Microsoft .ISO.
Back up data and/or create a backup image of your existing system drive.
Run the .ISO to do an in-place upgrade.
As an aside. I'm running W11 24H2 (in-place upgrade) on many PCs with zero problems.

Hi,
Thank you very much for the research and your advice. After what you said, I will not download and install 23H2, but will wait for a while until 24H2 is automatically installed by Windows Update. If not, I will install it manually later.
I also make a habit of making a system image before making major changes to my PC, it is the safest way to revert changes if things don't work as expected. 👍

Greetings @P_M_M
My pleasure.
Good to see you do system image backups.
Most PC users don't do this.
Recovering a previous, known good, operating system snap shot using a system image backup saves time and eliminates stress.
It took about five minutes to get my PC squared away. It would have taken many hours to rebuild the OS without a backup OS image.
