I opened up my laptop to find my complete desktop with my files, downloads, and folders missing and the windows original desktop displayed as if I just purchased this computer.

@PJ2025, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Restart First

Restart your computer.

Log back in with your usual user account.

See if your desktop and files are back. If not, continue below.

Check if You’re in a Temporary Profile

Open File Explorer (press Windows + E).

Go to:

You’ll see folders with usernames. Example:

YourName

YourName.TEMP or something unfamiliar.

Find Your Real Files

In C:\Users\, open the folder with your actual username (not TEMP).

Look inside:

Desktop

Downloads

Documents

You should see your files there.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
