Welcome to our HP Community forum!
If your desktop is asking for a BitLocker recovery key, it means that Windows has detected a possible change in the system's hardware, BIOS, or boot environment, and is trying to protect your data. Here’s how to proceed:
How to Find Your BitLocker Recovery Key:
Check your Microsoft account (most common):
Go to: https://aka.ms/myrecoverykey
Sign in with the Microsoft account that was used to set up the PC.
If BitLocker was set up automatically (common on Windows 10/11 Home/Pro), the key should be listed there.
Check your organization's IT admin (if it's a work or school PC):
The key may have been stored in Azure AD or Active Directory by your company or institution.
Check a USB flash drive or printout:
If you saved the key during BitLocker setup, it might be on a USB drive, printed out, or saved in a text file.
Important Notes:
There is no way to bypass the BitLocker screen without the correct key.
If you can't find the key and the drive is encrypted, your only option may be to reset Windows, which erases all data.
