Hi @PAB7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear your HP laptop is not booting. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to identify and possibly fix the issue.
Check the Power Supply:
- Ensure the laptop is plugged into a working power outlet.
- Check the power adapter and cable for any signs of damage.
- Verify that the charging indicator light is on when the laptop is connected to power.
Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the power adapter.
- Remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try to turn on the laptop.
Check the Battery:
- If the battery is removable, try booting the laptop with the battery removed and only the power adapter connected.
- If the battery is not removable, ensure it is charged.
Listen for Beeps or Look for Flashing Lights:
- Some HP laptops have beep codes or LED flash codes to indicate hardware issues. Listen for any beeping sounds or observe any blinking LED patterns when you try to power on the laptop. Refer to your laptop's user manual or HP's support site for the meaning of these codes.
Check the Display:
- Ensure the display is not the issue by connecting the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or VGA.
- If the external monitor works, the problem may lie with the laptop's display or display connections.
Disconnect All Peripherals:
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.) from the laptop.
- Try to boot the laptop with only the power adapter connected.
Boot into Safe Mode:
- If the laptop powers on but does not boot into Windows, try booting into Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key repeatedly as the laptop starts up (for Windows 7). For Windows 10, you might need to interrupt the normal boot process three times (powering off the laptop during the boot) to trigger the recovery mode, then navigate to Safe Mode from there.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Access the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually F2, F10, ESC, or DEL).
- Check if the hard drive is recognized in the BIOS.
- Reset the BIOS to default settings.
Check for Error Messages:
- Look for any error messages or codes on the screen during startup. These can provide clues about the issue.
Hardware Diagnostics:
- Use the built-in HP hardware diagnostics to check for hardware issues. This can usually be accessed by pressing the ESC or F2 key during startup.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
