@diecard, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop (15-fb0000 series) only charges when it's powered on, and not when it's turned off. Let's work through this together.
Perform a Hard Reset
This helps clear any residual power issues:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Unplug the charger.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Plug the charger back in and turn on the laptop.
Update BIOS and Drivers
Outdated BIOS or chipset drivers can affect charging behavior.
- Go to the HP Support page.
- Enter your product: Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb0000.
- Download and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and power management drivers.
Check Battery Health
Use HP’s diagnostic tool:
- Download and run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows.
- Run the Battery Test and note any warnings or errors.
Inspect Charging Port and Adapter
- Ensure the charging port is clean and undamaged.
- Try a different HP-compatible charger if available.
- If using USB-C charging, note that not all USB-C ports support charging when the device is off.
BIOS Settings Check
Some BIOS settings may affect charging behavior when the laptop is off.
- Restart the laptop and press Esc > F10 to enter BIOS.
- Look for any settings related to USB charging or battery behavior and ensure they are enabled.
- Save and exit.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
