OMEN by HP - 17-an104nv

My laptop won't start. Only after multiple attempts will boot. Many times i have to drain the battery at around 50% for the laptop to start working. so overall the laptop is working and it is not broken. but why it doesnt open on the first try?

@Couropalatis, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your OMEN by HP - 17-an104nv laptop only boots after multiple attempts, and sometimes only after draining the battery to around 50%. I know how frustrating that can be, and I’ll do my best to help you resolve it.

This issue could be related to power management settings, BIOS, or even a hardware-related fault. Let’s go through a few steps to isolate and potentially fix the problem:

Perform a Hard Reset

This helps clear any residual electrical charge that might be affecting startup.

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the AC adapter.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power adapter (but not the battery if it's removable).
  5. Try turning on the laptop.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated BIOS or firmware can cause boot issues.

  1. Go to the HP Support page.
  2. Enter your product name: OMEN by HP - 17-an104nv.
  3. Download and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and graphics drivers.
  4. Restart your laptop after each update.

Disable Fast Startup (Windows Feature)

Fast Startup can sometimes interfere with proper booting.

  1. Open Control PanelPower Options.
  2. Click Choose what the power buttons do.
  3. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  4. Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
  5. Save changes and restart.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

This will help check for any hardware issues.

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Run the System Test or at least the Quick Test for memory and hard drive.

Battery Calibration (if battery-related)

Since you mentioned the laptop starts after draining the battery, it might be a calibration issue.

Follow this guide: HP Notebook PCs - Testing and calibrating the battery (Windows) | undefined

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
