My mouse touch pad stopped working after a system update via a restart which I did and just took a working break. I just observed it stopped working after I wanted to work later in the day. Please how can I resolve this issue and get my mouse touch pad working again.

Thanks

@timmayod,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

OK, to me it sounds like a driver issue might have occurred after the system update.

Here are steps you can follow to get your touchpad working again:

1. Check Touchpad Settings (Low Hanging Fruit):

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.

  • Go to Devices > Touchpad.

  • Make sure the touchpad is enabled. If it’s disabled, toggle the switch to enable it.

2. Reinstall or Update the Touchpad Driver:

  • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.

  • Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.

  • Right-click the touchpad device and select Uninstall device.

  • Restart the laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver after rebooting.

Alternatively:

  • If your touchpad still isn’t working after a reboot, visit HP’s Support page for your laptop model and download/install the latest touchpad driver manually.

3. Update Windows:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

  • Click on Check for updates to ensure the system is fully up-to-date, as there may be a patch for touchpad-related issues.

4. Check for Other Issues:

  • Try connecting an external USB mouse to see if the issue is isolated to the touchpad.

  • If the external mouse works fine, it’s likely a driver issue with the touchpad.

5. Perform a System Restore:

  • If the issue started after the recent system update, a System Restore to a previous point when the touchpad was working might be helpful.

  • Press Windows + R, type rstrui, and press Enter. Follow the prompts to restore the system to a working state.

Let me know if this resolved your issue!

Kind Regards,
