My problems

I decided to boot up my old Pavilion 20 and try to use but I have run into a few problems, first I can't save anything to my desktop all I get is a message that reads: C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop is unavailable, I can't pin anything to my taskbar, and when I open the windows logo in the bottom left it shows my nothing just a purple background.

it is simply the user profile that is damaged
You just need to create a new one, then see, from the new profile, if you can recover the documents of the damaged profile
Once everything is ok, delete the profile that no longer worked!

2. Create A New User Account

Another method to Fix Corrupted User Profile in Windows 10 is to create a New User Account and transfer Files from Old to New User Account.

In case you have an alternate Admin Account that is not blocked, you can straight away Login to your Spare Admin Account and create a New User Account.

However, if your Admin Account is blocked, you can follow the steps below (2.1) to get access to Hidden Admin Account that Microsoft makes available for such occasions.
