Hi @Tejinder3,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

System freezes or crashes can be frustrating, especially on an HP Pavilion All-in-One. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check for Overheating

  • Ventilation: Ensure your all-in-one PC is well-ventilated and not overheating. Clean any dust from the vents and fans.
  • Temperature Monitoring: Use software like HWMonitor or Speccy to check system temperatures.

2. Update Drivers

  • Device Manager: Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select it), and check for any devices with a yellow exclamation mark, indicating driver issues. Update drivers for graphics cards, network adapters, and other critical components.
  • HP Support Assistant: Use the HP Support Assistant to automatically find and install the latest drivers and BIOS updates.

3. Check for Software Conflicts

  • Safe Mode: Boot into Safe Mode (press F8 or Shift + F8 during startup) and see if the system still freezes. If it doesn’t, the issue might be with a software or driver that doesn’t load in Safe Mode.
  • Uninstall Recent Software: If the freezing started after installing new software, try uninstalling it.

4. Perform System Updates

  • Windows Update: Ensure your operating system is up-to-date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

5. Run Diagnostics

  • HP PC Hardware Diagnostics: Restart your PC and press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. Run the comprehensive test to check for hardware issues.
  • SFC /scannow: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run sfc /scannow to check and repair corrupted system files.

6. Check for Malware

  • Antivirus Scan: Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to rule out malware or viruses.
  • Windows Defender: If you don’t have third-party antivirus software, use Windows Defender (Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection) to perform a scan.

7. Check System Resources

  • Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if any process is using excessive CPU, memory, or disk resources. Look for any unusual behavior or processes.

8. Verify Hard Drive Health

  • Check Disk: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run chkdsk /f to check for and fix any file system errors on your hard drive.
  • Hard Drive Health: Use tools like CrystalDiskInfo to check the health of your hard drive.

9. System Restore

  • Restore Point: If the issue started recently, you can try using System Restore to return to a previous state when your system was working correctly. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection and select System Restore.

10. Perform a Factory Reset

  • Backup Data: If other troubleshooting steps fail, consider backing up your important data.
  • Reset PC: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select Reset this PC. Choose the option to keep your files if you want to preserve personal data.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel,

I've tried all these solutions, but it has now started getting worst and freezes within 10-15 mins of working. The only thing I haven't done is restore to factory settings as I'm not confident that I have all my data backed up. And since I use this system for my business, I don't really want to lose anything.

any other solution. Also when I try shift+ctrl+esc , it does nothing. When it freezes I try cntrl+alt+del, it doesn't do anything and I always have to turn off the system and turn it back on.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Laptop that freezes or crash intermittently.

Please follow the steps below to perform an extensive system test to confirm if the hardware is working fine.

1) Shut down the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F2 once.

4) Go to the system test > extensive test

If the hardware is working fine. Please follow the steps below to perform a system restore as you do not wish to perform a complete recovery.

1) Shut down the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Select the F11 key to enter the recovery environment.

4) On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.

4) "Reset your PC" and restore your system.

5) From here just follow the screen instructions until the reset is completed.

Kindly refer to the steps on this link for reference and let me know if that resolves the issue.

HP Pavilion All-in-One 27-d1xxx has been freezing since a little before warranty ran out. Then it was only occasionally now it is a few times a week. I have reset it, reloaded windows, wiped it and reloaded. used HP diagnostics which says everything is good and even bought Norton Utilities.   I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HP AGAIN IF THIS DOES NOT GET RESOLVED.
