Narra5 motherboard will not upgrade to windows10, please recommend a replacement motherboard

HP Recommended
Compaq Presario CQ 5000 series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Updated the computer from windows 7 to windows 10. Noted the media players could not read files. NVidia says GeForce 615 ose will not work because motherboard is not windows 10 compatible. I need an appropriate replacement motherboard to use the computer.

Hi:

You should be able to manually install the W8 graphics driver as follows and have it work on W10.

Download and save, but do not run this graphics driver file.

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/82758/en-us

Download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

https://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file you saved.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name.

Once that is done, go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

Make sure the include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC.

As far as getting a replacement motherboard, I would not recommend going that route.

If you replace the motherboard, you also have to buy a new version of Windows.

You would be better off buying a cheap legacy video card that works with W10.

I will give this a try, as for a cheap sound card, I was told by Nvidia that the sound card is not separate from this particular motherboard. That is why I asked what motherboard to look for. Thanks. I'll check back later.

You're very welcome.

If you look  at the motherboard specs below you will see that there is a black PCIe x16 slot to add a video card in.

I am not sure what card will work in that board but you need what is known as a 'legacy' card because your PC's BIOS is not a UEFI BIOS.

I'm thinking a good contender would be the nVidia GT 210.

I don't know if you can find them new anymore.

You may be able to find a used but tested and working model on eBay.
