HP Laptop - 15-ef1072wm

I have a laptop that is barely used, but is a few years old. I got a black screen trying to turn it on a while back, but now I'm making more of an effort to try and fix this. After seeing the "Checksum BIOS" error, I started the BIOS recovery process. The BIOS recovery that I used did not work, but according to some research, I am in need of a specific driver: "Version: F.64 Rev.A" with the File name: "sp150709.exe". I understand that this is referred to as a "Softpaq" file type or bundle. This doesn't seem to be available for download. Is there an HP representative that could send me the file(s) directly? The ftp link that was given to me doesn't work at all.

Hi @Ronnieag1988

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining everything so clearly—it’s genuinely frustrating when a BIOS recovery stalls, especially when you’ve pinpointed the exact version you need. You’re absolutely right that sp150709.exe (Version F.64 Rev.A) is a SoftPaq BIOS update file, and it’s not currently listed on the public HP driver page for your model.

Here’s what you can do next:

BIOS Recovery Attempt:

  • If you have unsuccessfully attempted a BIOS recovery, try again following HP’s official process. Access the HP BIOS recovery procedure by pressing and holding the Windows + B keys while powering on the laptop. This might help revert or repair the BIOS settings.

Driver and BIOS Update:

  • You mentioned needing a specific BIOS update file or driver, "Version: F.64 Rev.A" with the File name: "sp150709.exe". You can typically find necessary BIOS updates or drivers on the HP Support website. Here, input your laptop's model number and navigate to the "Software and Drivers" section to locate BIOS or driver updates.

Download and Install:

  • Download the file if available and follow HP’s installation instructions carefully. Ensure your laptop is connected to a reliable power source during this process to prevent interruptions.

HP Support Assistance:

  • If you are unable to find the specific driver or BIOS update file, consider contacting HP Customer Support via phone for further assistance. They can provide guidance or might directly assist with providing the necessary files.

Additional Troubleshooting:

  • If a BIOS update does not resolve the black screen issue, other components might be the cause, such as the internal display connections or failing hardware. HP Support can further assist with diagnostics or repair options.

You’ve already done the hard part by identifying the right file—now we just need to get it in your hands.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
