Example: Pavilion 24 all in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

How do I start my hp Pavillion 24 all in one desk top. It is connected to the mains but when I turn it on all I get is a 5 icon box at the bottom right. If I toggle the power switch i get details of the current mode but nothing else. The screen remains blank

@kelvedon -- the screen remains black

You have some sort of a hardware problem:

* failing power-supply

* failing screen

* failing motherboard

* failing processor

* failing RAM

* failing disk-drive

Since you cannot power-on the computer, press ESC, and launch the HP Hardware Diagnostics, there is nothing that you can do, unless you are a qualified computer technician.

So, you need to take it to a HP-qualified computer technician, to pay for trouble-shooting.

Many thanks for the comments. In the end I took it back to the store and they changed it without comment. I now have a computer that works.
