If it won't boot up after a hard reset, don't waste any money on it.

My understanding from your previous posts was that when you pressed the power button you were getting a reaction out of the PC.

If that is not the case, then I have the same bad news I had earlier.

It's dead. Kaput. The motherboard has ceased to function as expected. You are going to have to source, buy or borrow another PC.

Not wanting it to be dead and asking for a fix is not going to change that.

You can always take it to a PC or notebook shop and pay to have someone to diagnose the PC if you do not believe me. They tell you the same thing , except it will cost you  time and money.

Okay....I'm glad I had a chance to drive to work after reading your last post and wondering what upset you. lol

After reading it again, I see what got you so confused. I mistyped.  Let me ask again correctly:  If my USB PORTS aren't working, how will I install the drivers for the new USB card after plugging it into the MB (since I will not yet have gained access to Windows)? Please don't take my questions personally. I don't know you and have no reason to think you're lying.

What you understood me to say previously was absolutely correct. My PC still starts up and goes through it's sequences to get stuck at the "Choose Keyboard Layout". I'm not wishing or pretending the computer works. It does.

Unfortunately, the recovery software you lead me to stopped being free last year. But that's okay. $19.75 is a decent price if it works.  But again, I need to find a comparable PCI Express USB card that I can buy off the shelf today or tomorrow as I need to get back to work on my projects this weekend if at all possible. I will shop around unless you have another resource.

Again, I'll let you know how things turn out. Have an awesome day. 😆

OK.

Thanks for clearing that up. 🙂

When the PCIe x1 usb adapter card is plugged into the slot it shouldn't need a driver.

Ah. The website tells us where to download the needed drivers. But I trust you. I'm shopping around for it or something very close to it. There must be someone selling them locally. Thanks.

You should be able to purchase one at a Walmart or most any electronics shop that sells desktop PC components.

Unfortunately, though we should be able to buy any and every computer component in a store, this is not the case in southern New Jersey. BestBuy/Walmart/Office Depot....no go. I can order it from their sites, tho. 😞  Looks like I'm dead in the water for another week or two waiting on a pci usb adapter.

I will have the recovery usb ready, though.

Erico - You are the MAN! I'm back in action, except my computer won't connect to wifi anymore. So, that's my new issue. But the computer is up and running again! And I never needed the USB adaptor. I used a CD.  I DO want to get the USB 3.0 adaptor, tho, for the future.

Thank you so much for your advice!

I am glad to hear my suggestions helped you.

The wifi issue is different, of course.  If you can identify it with its PCI\VEN character string, I will see if we can find a Windows 10 driver for you.

Open the Device Manager and verify that there is an installed and enabled driver for the device.

If there is only a network device that does not have a driver, right click on it and select properties. Now click on the Details and Hardware IDS dropdown as seen in the following image.  Post the complete PCI\VEN character string here in your thread.

The last line of info (of 4 lines) in that window is:

PCI/VEN_1814&DEV_3090&CC_0280

Do you need the first 3 lines as well?

No. That is enough information

 🙂

It is identified as a Railink RT3090 Wireless LAN 802.11n adapter.

Try the Windows 8.1 driver at the support portal I provided the link for.

Unfortunately I cannot locate a link that you mention for the 8.1 driver. I have, however, located the Windows 10 driver for my LAN card from mediatek.com. After installing it, my PC locates/lists the router but cannot connect to it for some unknown reason. That is the big mystery now. My cell phone and my laptop can connect to it so I know there is nothing wrong with the router. (I've rebooted it twice). The router is on another floor of the house plugged into someone elses computer so I can't test my PC that way (they use XP). Before this crash, I was connecting perfectly fine with Win 10 over 4 months. I'm growing more gray hairs over this. Any ideas what I should look for?
