HP Pavilion G4-2304tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a brand new 120gb Kingston SSD and want to install Windows 8.1 64-bit from a bootable USB and it doesn't show up in boot manager. I used both the windows installation media and rufus to make a bootable usb and it doesn't work, I also tried  disabling both legacy and secure boot (a solution I found when installing win 10 on another hdd using a cd) it still doesn't work. Any more help?

When you press F9 to get the Boot Devices menu, does the USB stick still now show up?

Then, you need to go back into the BIOS/UEFI settings and look for one named Disable booting from portable devices -- as that will also prevent the USB stick from showing up.

The USB stick still doesn't show up even if I try different usb ports.

And also there is no "Disable booting from portable devices" option in my bios boot options.

Should I try updating the bios?

@LittleSilly

I would not as updating the BIOS always runs the risk of trashing the PC.

My current bios version is F.22 and in the Software and Driver Downloads page the latest bios update is F.27 Rev.A for win8 64-bit.

I always advise against BIOS updates because they can trash your PC.

If you do this one, then be sure to exercise the option to backup the current BIOS to a USB stick before doing the update.  That at least gives you a chance of recovery if the BIOS update goes badly.

How can I backup my current bios? I'll put updating the bios as a last resort if I can't find any solution to my problem.
