My computer has become unresponsive. It started shutting down intermittently, occasionally giving the “There is a problem and your computer needs to restart, Collecting some error info
Unexpected kernel node trap, https:windows.com/stopcode Message.
I could usually restart it, but sometimes it took several tries.

I tried downloading/installing all new bios, running all of the HP and windows repairs and diagnostics but the problem of freezing every 2 hours or so persisted. When I could get it to work, I upgraded to Win 11 from Win 10, which seemed to solve the problem for a few days. Then, during an update notice from windows, I ran the update and got to 70% complete and it froze and quit. I can’t get any sort of opening screen now. Only the on button on the computer comes on. I assume I have to try to boot and/or reinstall windows from a flash drive. There appears to be a lot of conflicting information on the web. The first question is how to force a booth from the flash if I can’t get any opening screen activity

Also, should I try the win 11 reinstall, or the ISO, or something else
All help would be sincerely appreciated.

I think you have a hardware problem.

 

Faulty memory can cause an UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP. But other hardware problems can also cause this error.

 

I wish I could provide a quick and easy fix but this is not possible.

 

Run HP Diagnostics at system startup to check all components.

 

Start the PC. Tap "ESC".

 

Select "F2". Run system and component tests.

 

Contact HP Support if in warranty.

 

You would have to reduce the PC to a minimum config and swap in different components to find the bad part if system memory is okay.

 

Less expensive if this stuff is done by a local PC Tech.
